IMDS services

The International Material Data System is a global data repository that contains information on materials used by the automotive industry. Several leading auto manufacturers use the IMDS to maintain data for various reporting requirements.

In the IMDS, all materials present in finished automobile manufacturing are collected, maintained, analyzed and archived. IMDS facilitates meeting the obligations placed on automobile manufacturers, and thus on their suppliers, by national and international standards, laws and regulations.

In the late ’90s, a group of automotive manufacturers came together and developed a common data system – IMDS (International Material Data System) – to manage supply chain compliance data as applicable to various global regulations such as the ELV directive, REACH, RRR (Regulation on Recyclability and Recycling), and other similar regulations.

Automobile manufacturers, OEMs, and parts manufacturers create Material Data Sheets (MDS) for their standard and custom parts covering multiple levels of their supply chain.

Matcord IMDS Services include:

  • Matcord provides services on IMDS & ELV to various domestic and international customers & OEMs.
  • Creation of material data sheet and submission to customers
  • Support for In-house product IMDS creation as per BoM
  • Collect material data from all  suppliers
  • Supplier follow up to all suppliers for IMDS submissions of parts and provide necessary guidance to be followed as per all the IMDS, ELV and OEM rules
  • Validation on supplier submitted IMDS data as per IMDS, ELV and OEM rules and regulations
  • Update IMDS data as per customer requirements on timely manner

REACH

We provide comprehensive solution for EU-REACH Regulation (EC1907/2006) –

European Registration Evaluation Authorization of Chemicals (EU-REACH)

REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restriction of Chemicals and came into effect on 1 June 2007. REACH requirements applies to all chemical substances, whether it is a chemical used in an industrial process or in daily life such as in a cleaning solution or paint. To comply with the regulation, Manufacturers and Importers must identify and manage the Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs), a subset of REACH, are the most hazardous and harmful substances and are highly regulated. The REACH SVHC list grows and changes every six (6) months. and each update usually adds more chemicals into the candidate list.

Additionally, as of January 5, 2021, producers and importers of articles in the EU will be required to provide detailed information on the presence of SVHCs within their products to a new “SCIP” database currently being developed as part of the EU’s recast of the Waste Framework Directive.

Objectives of REACH are to :

  • Maintain and enhance the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry
  • Protect human health and the environment
  • Prevent the fragmentation of internal market
  • Increase transparency
  • Integrate with international efforts
  • Promote non-animal testing

Matcord helps manufacturers manage REACH compliance with:

  • REACH reporting
  • REACh data collection from your supply chain.
  • REACH data validation as per rules and regulations
  • Identify non-compliant parts and helps find replacements for non-compliant components.
  • Data declarations and certifications
  • REACH data maintenance

RoHS

RoHS 2 (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is a product-level compliance based on the European Union’s Directives 2011/65/EU and EU 2015/863 on the restriction of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Companies that manufacture electrical/electronic devices must comply with RoHS 2 before they can use the CE mark on their products.

This directive applies to manufacturers, authorized representatives, importers and distributors of products including large household appliances, small household appliances, computing and communications equipment, consumer electronics, lighting, power tools, toys and sports equipment, and automatic dispensers. RoHS 2 expands the scope to include compliance for medical devices, monitoring and control instruments, and all other electrical and electronic equipment not covered by other categories (unless specifically excluded). Other updates include the restriction of Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), and Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP).

Organizations often prove RoHS 2 compliance with a letter of compliance issued by an employee of the company. There are third party testing services available that will test an organization’s products for levels of the restricted materials.

Matcord provides RoHS services:

  • Manage all the processes for data management to comply with RoHS regulations
  • We work with customer & suppliers to collect, review & organize materials data for products.
  • We provide services to Electrical and Electronic industry in compliance with RoHS directives by region (EU, US, China, Japan, etc.)
  • Provide product content certifications to customers
